Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Prosecutor Office has dropped its investigation against Judge Dalida Burzic, a move that has sparked public controversy and deep frustration from Muriz Memic, the father of the late Dzenan Memic. In a powerful response, Memic announced his decision to sell his home and land, declaring that he has been betrayed by the judiciary, vowing to avenge his son. He insisted that he would not give up his fight for justice.
“Because of the latest events with the BiH Prosecutor’s Office, I have made this decision. The BiH Prosecutor’s Office has halted the investigation against Dalida Burzic. I have been betrayed by the Prosecutor’s Office. The judicial mafia has won. If they wanted to, this could have been the clearest case. But they must understand—whatever I do, I stand by it. I always emphasize that I am the Supreme Judge in this process. I will avenge my son. I will not give up. The BiH Prosecutor’s Office did this deliberately,” Memic stated.
He further added:
“The only thing left for me to do is inform Milanko Kajganic. Maybe he doesn’t even know what happened. I want to notify him. The situation in BiH is dire, especially in the judiciary. Things are worse than they were in 2016 when I started this fight. Corruption is greater, and political influence is stronger. This was deliberately stopped. I had a meeting with the prosecutors and told them they would intentionally fail to act. I will never contact them again. I had a meeting, and I told them all of this.”
Memic also stated that he has discussed the matter with his lawyer, Ifet Feraget.
“Everything I have learned about the law, I have learned from Ifet Feraget. He took the necessary legal steps. If they had wanted to, they could have simply followed Ifet’s legal arguments, copied the criminal complaint, and filed charges. I fought for BiH and was on the front lines. I am not a coward to flee my country. The war veterans have been humiliated the most in BiH. They have been sold out by the authorities who have ruled for 30 years,” Memic concluded.
The 21-year-old Dzenan Memic died on February 15, 2016, due to injuries he suffered a week earlier as he walked along Sarajevo’s Ilidza neighbourhood with his girlfriend, Alisa Mutap.
The Sarajevo Canton Court first ruled that Memic was killed when he was hit by a vehicle, but the family never believed it.
The Supreme Court of Bosnia’s Federation (FBiH) entity then released the two persons convicted for the traffic accident, Ljubo and Bekrija Seferovic and abolished the first instance ruling.
The attorney of the family of the deceased Memic, Ifet Feraget said in 2021 that he had filed a criminal complaint against more than 40 individuals in connection with the case of the young man's death. One of the people from the complaint was Dalida Burzic, the former Chief Prosecutor in Sarajevo Canton.
