Last night, the National Day of the Arab Republic of Egypt was celebrated in Sarajevo. The reception, hosted by Egypt’s Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Yasser Sorour, brought together representatives from Bosnian institutions and notable figures from the political, cultural, and public spheres.
Egypt is set to commemorate the 72nd anniversary of the revolution that occurred on July 23, 1952. This event, as highlighted by Ambassador Sorour, serves as a reminder of the Egyptian people’s struggle to establish the first Republic 72 years ago, marking the beginning of their journey towards building a new Egypt.
Ambassador Sorour noted that the revolution took significant steps towards empowering the majority of the Egyptian people and workers, granting them a dignified status.
“After 70 years of establishing the Republic and facing inevitable challenges, especially during the period of instability from 2012 to 2014 that threatened the state’s existence, it was essential to consider a new Republic. The foundations and values of the new Republic are built upon those of its predecessor, incorporating new principles to address changing threats and challenges. In establishing the new Republic, we work with diligence, dedication, and knowledge to turn the aspirations of the Egyptian people into reality,” stated Ambassador Sorour.
In his speech, he also highlighted advancements in bilateral relations and the upcoming visit of the Egyptian Minister of Tourism to Bosnia. This visit aims to discuss signing a memorandum of understanding between Egypt and Bosnia to establish an effective framework for enhancing tourism between the two nations.
Additionally, the Embassy organized a visit last year by the Bosnian Minister of Security to Cairo, the first such visit since 2008. During this visit, the minister discussed contemporary security challenges with his Egyptian counterpart and the importance of joint efforts to confront these issues.
The reception in honour of Egypt’s National Day saw the attendance of several distinguished guests, including High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina Christian Schmidt, U.S. Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina Michael Murphy, Palestinian Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina Rezek Namura, Mayor of Stari Grad Irfan Cengic, Mirela Becirovic, the wife of the BiH Presidency Chair, Denis Becirovic, and many other prominent figures from the political, cultural, and public sectors.
