Bosnia was among the numerous topics covered in a communique issued by the heads of 30 NATO member states, who urged BiH political leaders to work for the benefit of all citizens and implement “political, electoral, rule of law, economic, and defence reforms, including through the country’s Reform Programme with NATO, without prejudice to a final decision on NATO membership.”
The heads of NATO states and governments met in Brussels on Monday to reaffirm “unity, solidarity and cohesion” in the alliance and to “open a new chapter in transatlantic relations, at a time when the security environment we face is increasingly complex.”

The allies expressed support for “the sovereignty and territorial integrity of a stable and secure Bosnia and Herzegovina” in accordance with the 1995 Dayton Peace Agreement and other relevant international agreements, encouraged domestic reconciliation, and urged political leaders to “avoid divisive rhetoric.”
They also commended BiH “for its contributions to NATO-led operations.”
“We are committed to maintaining strong political dialogue with Bosnia and Herzegovina, and offer our continued support to the implementation of all reform efforts, including through NATO HQ Sarajevo,” the statement said, also encouraging BiH’s political leadership “to take full advantage of the breadth of NATO cooperative security and partnership tools.”
The allies also welcomed the work of Bosnia’s Commission for Cooperation with NATO.
“Allies urge political leaders to work constructively and to demonstrate political will for the benefit of all in Bosnia and Herzegovina in advancing Euro-Atlantic aspirations by implementing the much-needed political, electoral, rule of law, economic, and defence reforms, including through the country’s Reform Programme with NATO, without prejudice to a final decision on NATO membership,” the document said.
