NATO strongly supports Bosnia’s Euro-Atlantic integration process and will continue to cooperate with local authorities to preserve stability and promote reforms in the country, NATO Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg, said in his response to Bosnia’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Bisera Turkovic.
Turkovic previously sent Stoltenberg a letter in which she pointed out the challenges BiH is facing in light of the current developments in Europe and the region.
“I can assure you that the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO) strongly supports the Euro-Atlantic path of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The alliance will continue to cooperate with your country and other international partners to preserve stability and promote reforms in Bosnia and Herzegovina,” Stoltenberg’s response said.
The NATO official noted that Russia’s aggression against Ukraine fundamentally undermines European security and that this is why the alliance is ready to continue supporting partners who may be exposed to malignant influence and pressure, in order to strengthen their resilience.
He pointed out that NATO is developing a set of measures specially tailored for BiH, in accordance with what the country needs.
Stoltenberg wrote that the stability of the Western Balkans is a long-term strategic goal of NATO and that the Alliance remains committed to it.
He expressed concern over separatist rhetoric and activities that threaten to undermine the success of the Dayton Peace Agreement and stressed that NATO strongly and unequivocally supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of BiH and the functionality of its institutions.
