The new bishop of Banja Luka, Zeljko Majic, was ordained at the Cathedral of Saint Bonaventure in Banja Luka on Saturday, at a ceremony attended by numerous believers, bishops and politicians from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia, including Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic.

Majic, a priest of the Mostar-Duvno Diocese, was ordained by Archbishop Tomo Vuksic of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Vrhbosna, with the approval of Pope Francis. In his decision, the pontiff called on the faithful to show their obedience, harmony and cooperation to Majic.

After accepting Msgr. Franjo Komarica's resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Banja Luka due to retirement, Pope Francis appointed Majic as the Catholic bishop of Banja Luka on 8 December 2023.

Msgr. Zeljko Majic was born on 28 March 1963, in Drinovci, Bosnia and Herzegovina. He studied philosophy and theology at the Major Seminary of Sarajevo. On 29 June 1988 he was ordained a priest for the diocese of Mostar-Duvno.

Majic has served as director of Caritas in the diocese of Mostar-Duvno.
