Nasa stranka leader Sabina Cudic has said Bosnia and Herzegovina should not rush into the next stages of the Southern Interconnection gas pipeline project before key political questions are resolved.

Cudic stressed that her party does not oppose the project itself, describing it as part of a broader American geopolitical interest in Europe and the Western Balkans. However, she argued that further steps, including the ratification of the agreement with Croatia and the signing of additional arrangements with investors, should be postponed until there is more clarity regarding the selection of a new High Representative and the issue of state property.

She warned that support for the project could be withdrawn if investment plans become linked to what she described as “destructive political agendas” in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Southern Interconnection project is designed to connect Bosnia and Herzegovina to Croatia’s gas network and the LNG terminal on the island of Krk, reducing the country’s dependence on Russian gas supplies. The agreement between Bosnia and Croatia was signed in April but still requires ratification by the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina before it can be fully implemented.
