According to the data from the Agency for Statistics of Bosnia and Herzegovina, last year there were 1.377 million people of working age in BiH and 1.196 million of them or 86.8% were employed. A total of 181,000 people were unemployed, which is 13.2% of the working-age population.

Compared to the previous year, the number of employed persons increased by 2.9%, while the number of unemployed persons decreased by 14.1%, according to the agency's report.

There are no reliable data on the number of inhabitants in that country because only one census was conducted after the war due to political disputes, but analysts indicate that the significant decrease in the number of unemployed is related to migration and poor demographic indicators, but also to the growth of economic activity.

According to official statistics, 66% of the total workforce is aged 25 to 49. This is followed by 26.1% of those aged 50 to 64, and only 6.7% aged 15 to 24. Also, 1.2% of those employed are aged over 65, which is the retirement age.

People who completed secondary education and specialisations account for the highest percentage of the workforce, 69.2%. This is followed by persons with a completed higher education, university, master's degree, or doctorate (21.5%) and persons with completed primary education or a lower level of education (9.3%).
