A month has passed since flash floods and landslides struck Bosnia and Herzegovina, claiming 27 lives and leaving severe destruction in their wake. The worst-hit area was Donja Jablanica, in the municipality of Jablanica, where 19 people lost their lives, and extensive property damage was reported.
Many families in Donja Jablanica have been left grieving for loved ones, friends, and neighbours, while some have lost their homes. Anadolu Agency recently visited the area to assess the current state of recovery. Clearing operations are still underway, with volunteers working tirelessly to clear roads and homes damaged by the floods.
Soldiers from the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina are also on-site, providing daily assistance to residents in their recovery efforts. Efforts continue in other affected areas, including Zlatina, Mirke, Cehari, Civelj, and villages surrounding the lake, where work is ongoing to clear debris and restore access routes, including the road leading to the city landfill in Zakom.
Additionally, preparations are being made to establish a container home settlement for families displaced by the floods. Specialized teams are surveying the area, assessing damages, and providing guidance for repair efforts. Food and medical supplies are being distributed to residents across the municipality.
The floods and landslides, which struck on October 4, led to 19 fatalities in Jablanica, five in Konjic, and three in Fojnica, leaving a lasting impact on these communities as recovery efforts continue.
