Over 8,000 people lost their jobs in FBiH entity in three months
Statistical indicators for the the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) are far from favorable. Experts have pointed this out as well. Entrepreneur Elvis Pivic, a member of the Board of Directors of the eComm Association in BiH, spoke to N1 about the situation.
He described the sentiment among businesspeople following the decisions made by the FBiH Government, more than three months after they were introduced.
"The mood varies depending on whom you believe. On one hand, we have the FBiH Government saying that these decisions had no negative impact on the economy or economic trends in FBiH, and therefore in BiH as a whole. On the other hand, employers have faced a significant and unexpected increase in operational costs, right at the beginning of the fiscal year. Now we see that the FBiH Government is trying to compensate through certain initiatives. I believe damage has already been done to the economy and economic flows in FBiH for this year. Populism and economic measures do not go hand in hand," he said.
The economic situation in FBiH was also addressed by Admir Cavalic, an economist and member of the Federal Parliament from the Party for BiH, who referred to official data from the FBiH Tax Administration showing a sharp rise in unemployment in FBiH since the beginning of the year.
"Unlike February, when we saw a drop in employment by 1,733 (in the past five years, there was always an increase), March turned out even worse with a decrease of 2,327. March should have been a month of recovery. So these are the results since the beginning of the year: January: -4,589; February: -1,733; March: -2,327," wrote Cavalic.
He concluded that the economic policies of the FBiH Government have caused a decline in employment, as shown by data from the FBiH Tax Administration, inflation detected by the Central Bank of BiH, a drop in industrial production reported by the Federal Bureau of Statistics, and increased sales in Orasje, which was exempt from the non-working Sunday policy, according to the FBiH Tax Administration.
