“From Palestine, with love to Bosnia and Herzegovina. Your support for Palestine will never be forgotten,” Suleiman wrote.
His post sparked many positive reactions and messages of support, both from Bosnia and Herzegovina and from users around the world.
The message comes ahead of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s World Cup Round of 32 match against the United States, one of the biggest fixtures in the country’s football history.
Omar Suleiman is one of the most prominent Muslim scholars, theologians and human rights advocates in the United States.
He is the founder and president of the Yaqeen Institute for Islamic Research and the author of several widely read books on spirituality and Islamic thought.
Suleiman is also known for his public advocacy against racism, discrimination and injustice, and has frequently spoken at large civil rights demonstrations across the United States.
His academic and community work is based in Texas, where he serves as a professor of Islamic studies at Southern Methodist University and is involved in interfaith initiatives promoting peace, coexistence and tolerance.
Suleiman has also maintained a strong connection with Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In 2021, he visited the Srebrenica-Potocari Memorial Center, where he paid tribute to the victims of the genocide. He later published several widely watched videos and lectures about Srebrenica, seeking to explain the scale of the tragedy to a global audience.
In his public appearances, Suleiman has often drawn parallels between the suffering of Bosniaks and Palestinians, stressing that the lessons of Bosnia and Srebrenica must remain a warning to the world not to remain silent in the face of injustice and atrocities.
