Sabina Cudic, a top official from the liberal Bosnian Nasa stranka (Our Party) who is currently in Brussels, told N1 that the European People’s Party (EPP) is unaware of the fact that representatives of one of its members, the Croat Democratic Union in Bosnia (HDZ BiH), voted against reforms that would bring the country closer to EU membership.
Cudic is in Brussels at a meeting of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe Party (ALDE) meeting.
She said she used the opportunity in Brussels to draw attention to the “pro-Russian influence” BiH is facing and to inform EU officials about the contacts that Serb member of Bosnia’s tripartite Presidency, Milorad Dodik, had with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and President Vladimir Putin last year.
She also said she pointed out that Dodik’s Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD) and the strongest Bosnian Croat party in the country, the HDZ BiH, are blocking the country’s path towards EU membership.
Cudic mentioned the Thursday vote in the BiH House of Peoples, arguing that representatives of those parties voted against reforms that would bring BiH closer to achieving EU candidate status.
She pointed out that the HDZ BiH is part of the European People’s Party (EPP).
“EPP members are not aware that HDZ BiH, one of their members, yesterday voted against key laws necessary for BiH's European path,” she said.
