Numerous citizens gathered on Saturday in the central part of the city of Tuzla, north of Sarajevo, to join the protest against what the organisers called “systemic omissions” that resulted in murder of 52-year-old Amra Kahrimanovic by an off-duty police officer.

Nedzad Kahrimanovic, the victim's brother, was heading the crowd, which walked from the Brcanska Malta neighbourhood to the Ministry of Interior building. They were carrying banners that read ‘Justice for Amra’, ‘Responsibility, humanity’, ‘Tuzla stood up, Tuzla will surely make you leave’, and others.

Kahrimanovic reiterated that they request the dismissal of police minister and chief of police in Tuzla Canton as well as all those they find responsible.

Speaking to N1, he said that “the responsible ones will have to do it.”

“This is not a battle of a minute or an hour, but a long-term and difficult one,” he stressed.

Kahrimanovic also denied any political background to the gathering, stressing that this was a battle for dignity of his “brutally killed” sister.

“Two more murders happened after Amra, and…? They are only fixing the damage,” he said.

Rabija Hamidovic, one of the participants of the protest walk, said she arrived from Sweden to support the event.

“I used to be proud to say I am a Bosnian. Today, after so many murders I am more and more ashamed to say I come from the country of blood and honey,” she said.

She called on all citizen to join the forces and support as many women as possible in politics, government, ministries, courts…

Kahrimanovic was killed in a shooting on February 8, when a drunk off-duty police officer Elvis Custendil shot the woman from his police gun.

Director of the Police Administration, Dzevad Korman, told media that Kahrimanovic was not an “accidental victim” but a “target.”
