The commemoration for the 28th anniversary of the reintegration of the Sarajevo settlements of Grbavica, Kovacici and Vraca was marked on Tuesday at the the Suada Dilberovic and Olga Sucic Bridge memorial.
The reintegration process, conducted under the Dayton Peace Agreement, was completed 28 years ago by the return of the Sarajevo neighbourhoods.
Head of Novo Sarajevo Municipality Hasan Tunovic emphasised the importance of marking these anniversaries and the remembrance culture.
Symbolically, the students of elementary schools from this municipalities threw red roses from the bridge.
Several months after the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement, which ended the 1992-95 Bosnian war and the siege of Sarajevo, the members of security forces of the Federation entity entered Grbavica, Kovacici and Vraca neighbourhoods.
This marked the return of these parts of Sarajevo under the rule of the Novo Sarajevo municipal authorities after four years of occupation.
The day of the reintegration of these settlements is marked as the day of the local communities of Grbavica 1, Grbavica 2, Kovacici, Vraca and Gornji Kovacici.
