Policeman Miodrag Savic (27) was killed in a collision at an intersection in Banja Luka, while two other police officers and the driver of the other car were injured, according to the Banja Luka District Public Prosecutor's Office.
The police officers were in a Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Srpska vehicle, a Skoda Octavia, performing their duties.
The traffic accident, which involved a Golf, occurred at the intersection of Knjaz Milos Street and Milutin Milankovic Boulevard shortly after midnight, at 1:40 AM.
The police vehicle was driven by police officer Aleksandar Vukovic (31), with Savic as the passenger, and Rastko Crljic (21), while the Golf was driven by Marko Vujmilovic (24) from Laktasi.
According to Mondo, the police officers were chasing a reckless driver who ran a red light, when the Golf, coming from the other direction, collided with the police vehicle traveling at high speed.
The injured were treated at the University Clinical Center of the Republic of Srpska.
The on-duty prosecutor, Hana Vranjesevic, along with members of the Traffic Safety Police Station, conducted the investigation.
The prosecutor ordered all necessary measures and actions to determine the circumstances of the traffic accident.
An autopsy of the deceased will be performed at the Institute for Forensic Medicine of the Republic of Srpska.
