Bosnia and Herzegovina remains committed to preserving the memory and truth about the Holocaust, said Bosniak member of Bosnia's tripartite Presidency Sefik Dzaferovic, who is attending the International Forum on Holocaust Remembrance in Malmo together with Croat Presidency member and Chairman Zeljko Komsic.
He also said he would initiate a research project at the Srebrenica Memorial Centre, which would be carried out in cooperation with the Jewish Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina and other institutions that study the Holocaust, with an aim to preserve the memory of it.
Dzaferovic also welcomed the fact that the Sarajevo Canton authorities organised lectures on the Holocaust in three primary and three elementary schools, in cooperation with Bosnian Jewish Community and the Council of Europe.
A day prior to the event, the two Presidency members attended the dinner organised by Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven for the participants of the forum.
Komsic said on this occasion that the holocaust was a systemically planned crime against one people – the Jews, which left permanent consequences on the world we live in.
He also spoke about the crimes against the Serbs and Roma committed by the Independent State of Croatia, the WWII-era Nazi-puppet state, saying that all this showed how dangerous and evil the human mind can be.
“Unfortunately, the modern history remembers the suffering and the crimes that were committed in Bosnia and Herzegovina during the 1990s. Genocide was committed in the heart of Europe, in Srebrenica, which took a number of victims, and it once again showed that great criminal ideologies are not the past but the present,” said Komsic, referring to the 1995 mass killing in the Bosnian eastern town Srebrenica, which two international courts ruled was an act of genocide.
