Bosnia and Herzegovina has fulfilled all its financial and other obligations last year and expects the same from the COVAX program and vaccine manufacturers operating within it, BiH’s three Presidency members told the Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO) in a meeting on Tuesday, calling for vaccines to be delivered to the country as soon as possible.

Presidency Chairman, Milorad Dodik, and members, Sefik Dzaferovic and Zeljko Komsic, met with Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus to discuss the difficulties and delays in the delivery of vaccines to Bosnia through the United Nations COVAX mechanism.

They concluded that an agreement on compensations and liability between BiH and the manufacturer should be signed as soon as possible and spoke about the readiness of the manufacturer to deliver the full amount of the vaccines that were agreed upon within precisely defined deadlines.

Bosnia meets all the technical requirements to immediately accept, store and distribute the amount of one million vaccines of all manufacturers operating under the COVAX program, they concluded.

The three Presidency members thanked the WHO Director General for his support for Bosnia in procuring the vaccines and asked for the WHO and the COVAX system to be involved in the process until the moment they vaccines arrive in the country, a statement from the Presidency said.

Following the meeting, Adhanom Ghebreyesus thanked the BiH Presidency members for their “strong commitment” to vaccine equity for Bosnian citizens on Twitter.

“I'm inspired by your drive to accelerate access to quality-assured COVID-19 vaccines and welcoming COVAX efforts,” he tweeted, adding “I stand ready to support you.”
