The Prosecutor's Office of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton (HNK) opened a case regarding the quarry in Donja Jablanica, after Nermin Niksic, Prime Minister of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FbiH) entity said at a press conference that the damage would not have been so great and there would not have been as many victims had the quarry, located on the slope above this Donja Jablanica village, not collapsed.
Niksic claimed that the company did not have all valid permits for quarrying.
“The Minister informed us, and she also received information from the cantonal Ministry, that this company was formed in 2001, but that no documentation on the concession and approval for exploitation was ever issued,” said Niksic.
The cantonal Prosecutor's Office stated that a case has been established and a team of prosecutors has been appointed to work on this case.
According to the cantonal Prosecution, members of the Interior Ministry of the HNK, under the supervision of the Prosecutor, are investigating allegations and all information to establish all the circumstances under which this tragedy took place.
