Serbians living in New York staged a protest in front of the BC Partners offices on Madison Avenue, calling the investment fund to prevent the assault on independent media outlets in Serbia.

The protest comes after the publication of an audio recording of a conversation between the CEOs of BC Partners-owned United Group and state-controlled Telekom Serbia who discussed the removal of the CEO of United Media, a company owned by United Group, which owns the N1 and Nova S independent TV stations and portals.

The one-hour protest was peaceful. Protesters expressed fear that the possible removal of United Media CEO Aleksandra Subotic would initiate changes to the ownership of N1, Nova, Danas daily and Radar weekly and destroy those independent media outlets. They also voiced solidarity with the journalists and staff in those media outlets.

Journalist Milan Nesic who took part in the protest said they also spoke of the courage of United Media journalists in reporting the events that have been happening on the streets of Serbia over the past few months.
