Republika Srpska entity parliament to vote on new acting president

An extraordinary session of the Republika Srspska entity parliament has commenced Saturday morning and the delegates are set to vote to elect the acting president of the Bosnia's Serb-majority entity with Ana Trisic-Babic as the only candidate.

The move comes months after Bosnia's Central Election Commission stripped Milorad Dodik of office, following the State Court decision sentencing him to a year and banning him from political activity for six years.
Despite court rulings, decisions of the RS presidential cabinet itself to delegate functions to the vice president, and the nomination of candidates for early elections, the ruling majority in the RS has continued to address Dodik as the entity president.
Following the vote on the presidential candidate, the parliament is also set to discuss the revoking of the laws that were challenged by the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the conclusions of the RS National Assembly from December 2024, which were successively condemned by the western embassies in Bosnia.

The session agenda does not specify the laws in question, but the Constitutional Court of BiH has previously invalidated a series of laws adopted by the RS parliament, which planned for the entity to seize some of the state-level competencies.
