At the start of the session, outgoing RS Prime Minister Radovan Viskovic addressed lawmakers, saying he was proud to have been the longest-serving prime minister in the entity’s history.

“I am proud because I am leaving no obligations for my successor. As a politically responsible person, and in an attempt to foster consensus in RS, I had no choice but to resign,” Viskovic said.

He explained that the prime minister does not have the authority to make changes to more than one-third of the cabinet.

“This government was unfortunate in that two ministers resigned for moral reasons. I am proud of that—it is the first time that elected officials have resigned on moral grounds. Aside from political pressure, they had no reason to step down. Today, I am doing the same,” Viskovic added.

He also noted that the SNSD had offered a national unity government to opposition parties in RS.
