Republika Srpska Parliament Speaker visits Hungary despite arrest warrant
Nenad Stevandic, the Speaker of the Republika Srpska National Assembly (RSNA), is currently in Hungary despite being listed on a central detention warrant issued by the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Before arriving in Hungary, Stevandic travelled to Serbia on Saturday, April 12, where he gave several interviews to media outlets aligned with the ruling regime, specifically Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.
Stevandic left Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) without any issues, bypassing controls and detention, despite the obligation of all BiH law enforcement agencies to detain him if spotted. This lack of action has raised concerns about the effectiveness of state institutions.
Today, Stevandic is scheduled to meet with Laszlo Kover, the Speaker of the Hungarian Parliament and a long-time member of the ruling Fidesz party led by Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
It is worth noting that Milorad Dodik, the President of Republika Srpska, who is also on the central detention warrant, has repeatedly left and returned to BiH without facing any consequences. Similarly, Radovan Viskovic, the Prime Minister of Republika Srpska, is also on the warrant but has not yet crossed the state border.
The three officials are wanted for a series of controversial and unconstitutional actions following Dodik's first-instance conviction by the Court of BiH. Due to his disregard for the decisions of Christian Schmidt, the High Representative in Bih, Dodik was sentenced to one year in prison and banned from holding public office for six years. Dodik, Stevandic, and Viskovic are accused of undermining the constitutional order of BiH.
