Locals in the town of Foca marked the anniversary of the war crimes committed against Bosniaks in this area on Sunday. Roses were dropped from the Karl bridge into the Drina river for the nearly 3,000 victims and those gathered once again appealed to anyone who might have information about the whereabouts of the remains of more than 600 victims that have never been found to come forward.
Elvis Causevic said he would not give up the search for the remains of his grandfather Mehmed Cerimagic from Trosnje. According to the information that the family managed to obtain, he was detained in the infamous KPD Foca, and in mid-1993 he was taken to pick plums and never returned, writes Dnevni Avaz.
“On July 1, 1992, he was taken in front of his house and to this day we do not know where his bones are. Every year I come, I ask that someone contacts me with information so that we can bury him,” said Causevic.
Foca remains known for war criminals, graves and numerous locations where civilians were kept imprisoned, especially women and girls.
The wartime events in Foca prompted the International Criminal Court for the former Yugoslavia to define sexual slavery as a crime against humanity.
