After meeting with the Chairman of Russia’s State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin, the Speaker of the National Assembly in Bosnia’s Republika Srpska (RS) entity, Nenad Stevandic, said that the RS will remain neutral and will not join the “anti-Russian hysteria”.

Stevandic is in Moscow at the invitation of the Chairwoman of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, Valentina Matviyenko. He is leading a delegation of three MPs from the Serb Democratic Party (SDS), the ruling Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD) and the People’s Party of Srpska (NPS).

Stevandic said that he spoke to Volodin about the relations between the two countries, as well as the relations between the RS entity and Russia. He said they spoke about previous cooperation and projects and concluded that there are no outstanding issues between the BiH, the RS entity and Russia.

“Republika Srpska has had excellent relations with Russia for many years, and we have presented our positions regarding the establishment of peace and ending all hostilities. We hope that this will happen in the coming period,” said Stevandic.

After the meeting, the RS delegation attended the plenary session of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, where they were greeted with applause.

Stevandic said that the RS remains neutral and will not join the “anti-Russian hysteria” and added that he condemns any attempt to present the RS as a Russian proxy in Europe, arguing that Russia never had such intentions.

“We hope that our stance on neutrality will be verified in the future. Smaller states like ours do not have the privilege of interfering in conflicts,” he said.
