The Minister of the Interior of Republika Srpska (MoI RS), Sinisa Karan, stated that the primary duty of the RS police is to protect the constitutional order and emphasized that no members of the RS leadership will be arrested.

“The task of the RS MoI is to protect the constitutional order, its constitutional institutions, representatives of all institutions, and all its citizens. That task will be fulfilled completely,” Karan told ATV.

He further stated that the National Assembly of Republika Srpska had passed laws that define the framework of MoI RS operations.

“These laws state that the Court and the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA), and the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council are unconstitutional institutions and that their operations are prohibited on the territory of Republika Srpska. This is the framework within which the MoI operates,” Karan added.

However, it is important to note that the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina has issued a temporary measure suspending these controversial laws.

Despite this, Karan insisted that the RS government officials would not be arrested in response to the BiH Prosecutor’s Office's order for the detention of RS President Milorad Dodik, RS Prime Minister Radovan Viskovic, and RS National Assembly Speaker Nenad Stevandic.

This will not happen, and they are protected. They will have full integrity ensured by the MoI. These institutions cannot, will not, and must not operate on the territory of Republika Srpska. These are RS laws, and we are bound by the Constitution, our ethical, moral, and professional obligations, and the responsibility of the MoI. No one will be arrested, and everyone will be protected,” Karan concluded.

The BiH Prosecutor’s Office has issued an order for the judicial police, with SIPA’s assistance, to detain Dodik, Viskovic, and Stevandic on charges of undermining the constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
