“Tonight, my family and I are going through agony, one of the most difficult ones we have experienced since we returned to Potocari. Namely, my husband was taken into custody tonight by the policemen of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republika Srpska (RS) [entity] and, by the time of publishing of this status, I have no information what is happening with him,” Adisa Omerovic from Srebrenica wrote an hour after midnight.

“After the publication of one of the portals in which my husband was mentioned in the most heinous way, I sense that the reason for the arrest is the indignation we expressed regarding yesterday's shameful concert in front of the church. My children are upset and we are concerned for our safety. I call on all of you who swear by Srebrenica and Bosniaks, who have any influence in society, to be my helpers in the fight for truth and justice. Tonight it's my husband, tomorrow it could be any of you. My husband survived the camp in Sljivovica where he spent 8 months and 10 days, we will survive this as well, God willing,” Omerovic added.

NAP agency contacted Adisa Omerovic for more information about the events, and she answered her phone the emergency medical service and directed them to the text of the Despotovina Facebook page, in which her husband Mirsad Omerovic is accused of allegedly preparing an attack on the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC), only based on the pist in which Omerovic asks on the night of July 11 “if there are 50 people to check what is being celebrated in Srebrenica,” only hours after the commemoration of the anniversary of the genocide and the burial of 30 victims.

The RS police made a statement later during the day saying the police officers of the Srebrenica Police Station apprehended M.O. for suspicion that he committed the criminal offence of “Endangering security.”

On the said day at around 2:30 p.m., the police officers of the Srebrenica Police Station acted upon a report that the social network profile of M.O. published threats on national and religious grounds, they added.

After the funeral and burial of 30 victims of the genocide in Srebrenica, on the same evening, inappropriate songs such as “Rejoice, Serbian People” were played from a nearby church. They were, allegedly, part of the St. Peter’s Day celebration.

Over 8,000 persons were killed in the genocide, mainly men and boys. To date, the remains of 6,652 have been buried at the Potocari memorial. The remains of 237 have been buried elsewhere according to their families’ wishes.

For the Srebrenica genocide, the Hague war crimes tribunal sentenced to life former Bosnian Serb political and military leaders Radovan Karadzic and Ratko Mladic.
