EXIAR, the Russian Agency for Insurance of Export Credits and Investments offered financial support for the construction of the Sarajevo-Belgrade highway, the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Bosnia and Herzegovina said Tuesday.
The Ministry said the agency emphasized two sections in particular: “Sarajevo-Pale-Zepce-Tuzla-Brcko-Bijeljina-Kuzmin” and “Sarajevo-Pale Rogatica-Visegrad-Vardiste.”
For the first time in the last four years since the idea of building a highway connecting Sarajevo and Belgrade was promoted, information emerged that Russian financial institutions could finance the construction of these sections.
“The model of financing the construction of the highway/expressway will be known when the preparation of project documentation for both routes is completed,” the BiH Ministry of Transport and Communications explained.
The authorities said for four years that the project will be financed by Turkey, and the previous period was marked by the laying of the foundation stone for the construction of the road in Sremska Raca, talks between BiH and Turkey, meetings in the Ministry of Transport and Communications, and even parliamentary sessions.
