Sad installation in Sarajevo: 11,541 shoes placed in memory of citizens killed during siege (PHOTO)

An installation of 11,541 shoes was placed along the main Sarajevo walkway from Bas Carsija to Marsala Tita Street, in memory of the citizens killed during the 1992-1995 siege of the city.

A silent walk will also be organized, which will take place through the streets of Marsala Tito, Ferhadija, Saraci to Bascarsija, where the central stage will be set up.

A total of 11,541 shoes were placed along the route of the walk participants, symbolizing the killed citizens of besieged Sarajevo and the fallen veterans of the Army and Police of the then Republic of BiH, as well as installations where all participants, citizens and tourists, will be able to get information about the way of life in besieged Sarajevo, the citizens’ struggle for survival.

In the central event called “The Memory Trail”, the following performers take part: Lejla Jusic, Ivan Scitinski, the vocal ensemble “Pro Musica”, the choir of the Sarajevo Music High School, the female vocal ensemble “Corona,” the choir “Sapat srca” and the children's choir “Mali slavuji,” which will pay tribute to all the murdered citizens of besieged Sarajevo with suitable performances.
