SafeJournalists regional network strongly condemned recent attacks via social networks which targeted N1 journalists, urging competent authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina to carry out an efficient investigation and adequately punish the perpetrator.

The network's statement which says in its title that “impunity and tolerance of online violence against journalists by BiH judiciary and police are unacceptable” notes that the latest targets of the attacks were N1's Amir Zukic and Nikola Vucic, as well as secretary general of BH Journalists Association Borka Rudic.

The threats were recently published on Facebook on the profile named Jasmin Mulahusic, the person who was apprehended earlier this month on the Bosnia-Croatia border over the threats he had addressed before to other public figures in BiH. SafeJournalists network reminds that he was charged with criminal offences of inciting national, racial and religious hatred, discord and intolerance. However, the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina released him, and did not determine any prohibitive measures.

“The SafeJournalists Network, which gathers more than 8,200 media professionals in the Western Balkans, condemns the attacks and targeting three journalists and media freedom defenders in BiH. We demand a quick and efficient investigation and adequate punishment for the perpetrator. Also, we call on the competent authorities to reconsider the decision to release Jasmin Mulahusic from custody, especially bearing in mind that he continued with the same practice as before, and that there is a possibility of repeating the criminal offence. The SafeJournalists network will inform all relevant domestic and international actors about this case of the attack,” said the network.

In a statement last week the SafeJournalists condemned another attack that came from “the same nationalist and radical circle and individuals,” and whose targets were Rudic and Sarajevo University professor Lejla Turcilo.
