The airport served 202,074 passengers in May 2026, up two percent from the same month last year, making it the busiest May in its history despite continued challenges in the global aviation sector.

Sarajevo International Airport said the result reflects continued passenger confidence as it expands capacity and focuses on service quality, safety and customer satisfaction.

“This result is the most beautiful birthday gift and a confirmation of the satisfaction and loyalty of our passengers, as well as the dedicated work of our employees and partners,” acting director Dino Selimovic said.

He said the airport would continue improving connectivity between Bosnia and key international destinations, while further upgrading services.

During the 1,425-day siege of Sarajevo, the airport served as a vital link to the outside world. Over 13,000 flights delivered over 160,000 tonnes of humanitarian aid during the 42-month air bridge.

The airport said continued investment in infrastructure and operations is helping drive growth and strengthen its role as a key transport hub in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
