A peaceful protest titled “Bosnia and Herzegovina for a Free Palestine” took place on Sunday in Sarajevo, where citizens gathered to send a strong message against aggression, occupation, and violations of international law.

The gathering began at 1 pm at the Memorial to the Children Killed in Sarajevo, with a large turnout of participants. The event aimed to express solidarity with the Palestinian people and to highlight the urgent need to uphold international humanitarian law.

Protesters emphasised that it is especially important for Bosnian citizens, who themselves endured war and siege, to raise their voices against injustice and violence targeting civilians.

Participants are carrying Palestinian flags and banners calling for freedom, justice, and an end to violence.

Before the end of the protest, scheduled shortly before 3 pm, organisers planned to read a set of demands addressed to Bosnian state institutions. These include the cessation of all cooperation with Israel, the respect of international law, and the adoption of concrete measures to support the Palestinian people.

The protest was organised by an informal coalition of citizens, including journalists, cultural workers, medical and educational professionals, activists, and others united by the belief that Bosnia and Herzegovina’s own tragic wartime experience and anti-fascist legacy compel them to speak out against aggression, genocide, and apartheid anywhere in the world.

Organisers have stressed that the gathering is peaceful and driven by moral responsibility, rather than political affiliation, calling on regional and international actors to work toward an immediate ceasefire and protection of civilians in Gaza.

The Sarajevo rally comes amid a wave of global demonstrations in solidarity with Palestine, as citizens across multiple continents demand adherence to international law and accountability for attacks on civilian populations.
