Benjamina Karic, the mayoress of Sarajevo, said commenting on the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict that it would be “hypocritical” to condemn only the attacks conducted by Hamas without condemning “everything that was happening before.”

“I condemn every attack, each act of terrorism, every killing of the innocent. I equally condemn everything that is happening in Palestine. The killing of innocent children, women and civilians,” Karic said speaking to N1.

Asked if she would allow illumination of the City Hall in some colours that are in a way related to this conflict she replied that this practice ended with her decision and the support of the City Council, explaining that the building would be illuminated only on the state holidays or the dates concerning the City of Sarajevo.

“If you ask me for my personal opinion, I will gladly say it, I have never escaped that. In this case, I think it is hypocritical to condemn only the attack of Hamas on Israel, while not condemning everything that was happening before,” said Karic.

She said she was very disturbed by the information that people of Gaza were left without electricity, water supply.

“We, who experienced the siege of Sarajevo know the feeling. We need to be humane and equally condemn everything that is happening, both what was happening before as well as the Hamas attack,” she stressed.
