The large-scale civic protest in Sarajevo has officially ended after more than three hours of road blockades that paralyzed the city center from Marijin Dvor to Skenderija. While initially planned to last only 45 minutes, the demonstration extended significantly as citizens gathered to demand systemic changes following a fatal tram accident.

The protest began with a show of support outside the "Prim. dr. Abdulah Nakaš" General Hospital for 17-year-old Ella Jovanović, who was severely injured in the crash. The crowd then moved to the Parliament of Bosnia and Herzegovina at Marijin Dvor before ultimately blocking the major intersection at Skenderija.

At Skenderija, the atmosphere was marked by emotional tributes. Participants lit flares in honour of Jovanovic and 23-year-old Erdoan Morankic, the young man who lost his life in the accident. However, the gathering quickly turned toward political accountability, with the youth leading chants for the resignation of the Sarajevo Canton Government.

"Resignation of the KS Government," echoed throughout Skenderija during the peak of the rally.

One participant, Ajla, emphasized that this is only the beginning of a larger movement. "This is the first time it will be like this. Every future gathering will be a continuation until something changes. This is not the mistake of an individual, but of the system. We want change," she stated.

Although the roads were completely blocked for several hours, the conclusion of the protest has allowed for the gradual restoration of traffic. The organizers underscored that the length of Saturday’s gathering serves as a warning to authorities that the public will no longer tolerate institutional negligence.

The protest will continue on Sunday.
