Christian Schmidt, the international peace envoy in Bosnia and Herzegovina, said that the Constitution of BiH does not stipulate the right to secession for any of its entities, but that the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity are nevertheless constantly under the threat as well as the functioning of the institutions.
Speaking at the 105th NATO Rose-Roth Seminar, which is taking place in Sarajevo, Schmidt said that the Dayton Peace Agreement had brought a new constitution for the country and that the Office of the High Representative (OHR) significantly contributed to the functioning of the legislative structures in the period after the war.
Confronting the attacks on the Dayton Peace Agreement, the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the institutional order are still the priority of his work, Schmidt stressed.
He also noted that the politicians from the Serb-majority entity, Republika Srpska, still did not give up on the secessionist policies but have intensified their activities.
There is no compromise when it comes to the Dayton Agreement, Schmidt stressed, adding that he takes his mandate very seriously.
Schmidt also emphasised the necessity of preventing the decline in the process of reforms, democracy development and rule of law, adding that now is the time for BiH to speed up the reform implementation as the progress towards the European union is the goal everyone is striving for.
The Parliament of BiH is hosting the 105th NATO Parliamentary Assembly's Rose-Roth Seminar, which is attended by some 130 participants including the Bosnian parliamentarians, state ministers as well as the representatives of law enforcement agencies and NATO Sarajevo HQ commander, General Pamela McGaha, diplomats and experts.
