The main Bosniak party, the Democratic Action Party (SDA) requests an urgent clarification from the Office of the High Representative in BiH regarding media publications claiming that a draft decision has been prepared on the imposition of broad changes to the Election Law and changes to the Constitution of Bosnia’s Federation (FBiH) entity.

“If the statement published in the media saying that the OHR intends to introduce a census of three percent is correct, which implies that constituent peoples whose numbers in a certain canton are less than 3 percent will be denied their representatives in the House of Peoples – that is completely unacceptable, and it will certainly be the subject of lawsuits to the European Court of Human Rights,” the SDA announced.

They added that it is equally unacceptable to introduce the 8-5-2 formula of necessary delegates when electing the leadership of the Federation entity. If imposed, the SDA said, these solutions would hand the FBiH into the hands of the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD) led by Milorad Dodik and the Croat Democratic Union (HDZ BiH) led by Dragan Covic.

“Dodik's SNSD, which governs the Republika Srpska (RS) entity, implementing apartheid over the non-Serb population, would have the opportunity to take control of the FBiH together with the HDZ BiH. Representatives of policies that the international community has sanctioned and condemned due to blockades and anti-Dayton activities, would be rewarded this way, which represents supreme cynicism,” the SDA concluded.
