The Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) joined President Aleksandar Vucic in criticizing a group of students who are claimed to have disrupted the annual St Sava ceremony at the Matica Srpska institution.

The students stood up at the ceremony to read a poem written in 1981 by the head of the oldest Serbian institution of culture which mentioned the Novi Sad railway station and an awning.

An SPC statement said that “a group who claim to be students violently interrupt the St Sava ceremony in the temple of Serbian science, culture and arts to impose their anti-St Sava, anti-Christian and anti-Serb narrative and concept of life”. It added that Serbian students are living in parallel multi-verses with Belgrade University students listening in silence to Patriarch Porfirije while others disrupted the ceremony.
