It could be a matter of days before another war breaks out in Kosovo, Vuk Draskovic, politician and writer, former head of diplomacy of Serbia and Montenegro, founder and leader of the Serbian Renewal Movement, told N1 Wednesday night. 

“I think that Kremlin strategists are looking forward to the opening of the Balkan battlefield as a gift from heaven. We are very close, maybe it’s a matter of days, for sparks to fly in Kosovo. Everything is blocked there. Europe and the US have sent a request for the immediate removal of the barricades and have given a deadline. Eleven days have passed, and the barricades are not only not being removed, but we have Vucic's statement that they will be removed when the Community of Serb Municipalities is formed,” Draskovic said.

Asked to comment on the Kosovo Prime Minister’s refusal to form the Community of Serb Municipalities, fearing it would create another Republika Srpska (a Serb-dominated entity in Bosnia) in Kosovo, Draskovic said such a creation would bear little resemblance to the Bosnian entity.

“According to what’s clearly stated in the Brussels agreement, there would be no resemblance. Municipalities with a Serb majority would be connected to each other and would have a high level of local self-government, but would act according to Kosovo laws and would be an integral part of the constitutional order of Kosovo. There is no similarity with the RS. An important point 14 of the Brussels Agreement is being blocked, and little is said about it in Serbia, which literally says that the two parties undertake not to hinder or block each other on the way to European integration,” he told N1.

Speaking about the potential for war, Draskovic said that one victim would be enough to produce a disaster, which would mean war.

“The Moscow architects are rejoicing, Serbia would enter into a direct conflict with NATO and the flames could engulf Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also Montenegro, where leaders who say that Putin is their president are cheering. If that happens, it will be difficult for all of us, and the only one who will be relieved is the Russian side on the Ukrainian front. No one but the US and NATO can prevent that dark scenario,” Draskovic concluded.
