Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, stated on Friday that the situation for the Serb people will be difficult on June 8, because a final verdict will be handed down to Ratko Mladic along with a regular session of the United Nations Security Council at which a report on the work of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Courts in The Hague will be presented.

In a space of only a few hours, Mladic will be sentenced and a UN Security Council report is expected to criticize the Serbian leadership for failing to comply with a binding order for the extradition of former Serbian Radical Party MPs Petar Jojic and Vjerica Radeta, Vucic said.

Vucic stated that there is also a technical problem related to the UN Security Council session. The Chief Prosecutor and President of the UN Mechanism for International Criminal Courts, Serge Brammertz and Carmel Agius, will be able to address the session virtually but that it is not possible for him for now.

“I hope it will be possible for me [to address the UN Security Council]. If not, we'll have to find a way to get to New York. I have the right to attend the live session,” Vucic said.

He added that the residual mechanism had assigned only one case to Serbia while Bosnia and Herzegovina got 13 and that these are much more serious cases than Jojic and Radeta.

The International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (MICT) will next week deliver the final verdict in a case against Bosnian Serb wartime commander Ratko Mladic, who was given a life sentence in the first-instance trial in November 2017.
