Heavy rainfall in recent days has caused a sharp rise in river levels across Bosnia and Herzegovina, prompting emergency warnings and road closures. Authorities in Sanski Most have urged residents to remain on high alert as the Sana River approaches critical levels. In Laktasi, a state of emergency was declared last night, leading to the evacuation of one family. Meanwhile, in Banja Luka, the Trnski Bridge has been closed to traffic due to landslides, and the Vrbas River has surpassed the emergency flood defence threshold.

In Derventa, rising waters of the Ukrina River have forced the suspension of classes in elementary and high schools.

“The Brusina Creek has overflowed. Sandbags are holding back the water from the most vulnerable homes and yards, but if the rain continues until Wednesday, we won’t be able to stop it,” said David Ponorac, president of the Prijecani local community, according to RTRS.

This morning, the situation in Prijecani remains critical, with road closures and landslides continuing to disrupt traffic. Several municipalities have declared a state of natural disaster. Weather forecasts predict mostly cloudy conditions with rain showers throughout the day, with precipitation expected to subside in the evening.

Floodwaters have led to the closure of multiple roads across Bosnia and Herzegovina. The following routes are impassable due to flooding:

  • Gradiska–Kozarska Dubica (Vrbaska)
  • Klašnice–Prnjavor (Ratkovac)
  • Teslic–Doboj (Vrela)
  • Doboj–Modriča (Vranjak)
  • Cerik–Loncari
  • Doboj–Maglaj (Bijela Ploca)
  • Doboj–Zavidovici (Donji Ulisnjak)
  • Maglaj–Lijesnica

Traffic is significantly slowed on the Srbac–Derventa and Kostajnica–Kozarska Dubica routes, particularly in the Petrinja area.

Landslides and rockfalls threaten drivers, particularly on regional roads such as Kozarac–Vodice–Mrakovica and Vrbaska–Mrakovica near the Vucjak quarry, where traffic is completely halted. Authorities have also issued warnings for Celinac–Kotor Varos and Crna Rijeka–Mrkonjic Grad roads.

On the Gacko–Tjentište highway, landslide risks between the Cemerno and Surdup tunnels have restricted traffic to a single lane.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation as more rainfall is expected.
