Seventy-four-year-old Alka Gusic from Donja Jablanica survived the severe floods that struck parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the early hours of Friday, but she lost her home and four family members.
Gusic told Reuters reporters that she was asleep, but at some point heard a loud noise and initially thought it was an earthquake.
“And it was like that the second time as well. I came to look after my sister, she is not well, she is not capable. We went to bed and we didn't know what was happening, I just heard a loud rumble and we didn't know what it was until our neighbour arrived. Then we went together to the house of my brother who died in these floods, together with our sister, my daughter-in-law and my brother's son. Everyone died, there is no one left, only one son is left,” the crying woman told reporters.
“I lost four family members, I have no one left, my house is completely destroyed, there is no one, no one. What else can I say…” Gusic said.
At least 16 people have been killed in the devastating floods and rescuers, including those from the Armed Forces, are still searching for many people who are missing.
