Graffiti symbolising the remembrance of the Srebrenica genocide appeared in Belgrade on Saturday morning, accompanied with a message: we remember.
A group that informally call themselves the citizens of Belgrade issued a statement saying that they reject “with disgust the official state policy of glorification of war criminals and denial of genocide.”
“We demand from Republic (of Serbia) President Aleksandar Vucic and Prime Minister Ana Brnabic to recognise the genocide, lead the republic institutions towards the taking over the responsibility and to pay respects to the victims,” reads the statement.
The message comes amid the protests against the mural dedicated to convicted war criminal Ratko Mladic in central Belgrade and the attempts to prevent its removal from the walls.
