The Thursday move by Bosnia’s election authority to annul the results of the November 2020 election Srebrenica over election fraud allegations was politically motivated and planned “in Sarajevo”, said the mayor of the eastern town, Mladen Grujicic, announcing that the decision will be appealed.
The Central Election Commission (CEC) decided to annul the election results for 26 out of 28 polling stations in Srebrenica as well as 89 out of a total of 108 polling stations in the town of Doboj. The institution discussed allegations of numerous irregularities regarding the voting process and determined that people without valid BiH documents were allowed to vote. Dozens of such cases were reported at several polling stations.
Graphologists also found numerous irregularities when it comes to voter signatures, ie forgeries.
Grujicic, who was the joint candidate representing all Serb ethnic parties in the town, announced that the decision will be appealed.
“It is clear to us that it was agreed in advance in Sarajevo that this scenario would happen if the Serb candidate for mayor wins. It is a ridiculous and unacceptable explanation that the complete election and my victory with 1,200 votes more than the Bosniak candidate will be annulled due to 50 suspicious voters with allegedly expired documents,” Grujicic said.
He called it “unacceptable” that the CEC is annulling the election over something which that same institution is responsible for – updating and taking care of the validity of the voter list.
“They are responsible if there were deceased people or people with expired identification documents on the voter list and they created conditions for any potential manipulations,” he stressed.
He reiterated that there was no reason for the election to be annulled and said that “Serb parties will use all legal means to appeal this decision and if there are grounds for it, file criminal complaints against members of the CEC BiH.”
Bosnia’s Prosecutor's Office ordered the state police, SIPA, to arrest Bego Bektic, Enver Hamzic and Muamer Sandzic from Srebrenica in early December last year in connection with the election fraud allegations in Srebrenica.
However, all the suspects were released after questioning.
