Srebrenica Memorial Center temporarily closes due to security concerns
The Srebrenica Memorial Center has announced that it will be closed until further notice due to the current security situation. The decision, according to the Center’s statement, was made because of the "inability to provide adequate security guarantees for employees, associates, guests, and visitors, in accordance with legal regulations and current circumstances, as well as the ongoing coup targeting state institutions by rebel groups based in Banja Luka."

"The safety of all involved must be the top priority, and the Center will remain closed until the situation stabilizes and appropriate guarantees are secured. All employees of the Memorial Center will continue their duties remotely, where possible, to maintain administrative and other operations. This work arrangement will be temporary until conditions allow for a return to regular activities. Additionally, all events that can be held in Sarajevo or other locations will continue as planned, including the scheduled conference on March 11 in the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina," the statement read.

The Srebrenica Memorial Center expressed gratitude to visitors for their understanding and patience during this period.
"Our mission remains unchanged – preserving the memory of the victims of genocide and educating about the importance of peace, tolerance, and human rights. The decision to reopen the Memorial Center will depend on the development of the security situation and only after relevant authorities provide the necessary guarantees for the safety of all involved. We will also seek security assurances from SIPA, the Office of the High Representative (OHR), and EUFOR. However, now or at any time in the future, we will never accept security measures from an institution that committed genocide and continues to uphold that legacy in both name and organization.
We call on the state leadership to take immediate action to ensure the basic security of all citizens across the country, starting with Srebrenica," the statement concluded.
