Srebrenica Memorial Centre called on all international missions and embassies to Bosnia and Herzegovina to put all the efforts to have the “accurate and true information” reach the decision-makers in their respective countries, in regard with the adoption of the Resolution on Srebrenica before the UN General Assembly.

Your support and message will significantly contribute to the raising of the awareness and building a joint stance towards the justice and peace, said the Memorial Centre in a note to the foreign embassies ahead of the discussion on the Resolution on Srebrenica at the UNGA.

“Emphasising the values of empathy, justice and reconciliation, we can convey an important message together,” the note stressed.

The Memorial Centre also announced a cooperation with the memorial centres in Rwanda, stressing that they will not allow a “dirty anti-diplomatic campaign from Belgrade destroy the efforts of the entire world towards the confirmation of July 11 as the International Remembrance Day for the Srebrenica Genocide, which would undeniably and permanently carve this date into the calendars of the UN and thus become the world history – not as a footnote but as a lesson for all those to come.”

Draft resolution details

The document that N1 has seen consists of seven main points, including that July 11 is declared as the International Remembrance Day for the 1995 Srebrenica Genocide.

It among other things also condemns the denial of Srebrenica genocide and encourages the member states to develop adequate programmes in their curriculums towards the prevention of revisionism and repeating of genocide in the future.

The draft resolution emphasises the importance of finalising the process of finding and identifying the remaining missing victims of the Srebrenica genocide, their burial and criminal persecution of those involved in committing the genocide.

The proponents are Germany and Rwanda.
