Kada Hotic, the vice president of the NGO Movement of Mothers of Srebrenica and Zepa Enclaves, told N1 that the news that Serbia will provide scholarships for students who glorified war criminals on the anniversary of the 1995 Srebrenica Genocide is “shameful” and shows that Serbia is “leading youth down the wrong path”.
“Shameful. I can only say that Serbia and Republika Srpska (RS, one of BiH's two entities) and their leaders are leading the youth down the wrong path”, said Hotic.
This path, she said, is one where “we will never have peace”.
“Their teachings create hatred between people, no matter what religion or nation they belong to”, she said, adding that she wishes that Serbian authorities would condemn the war crimes committed in BiH against Bosniaks, but that “the time for that has not yet come”.
“Their politics is still the one from the 90s, the politics of war. What the students are doing is shameful”, she said.
The President of the Student Parliament of the University of Sarajevo (SPUS), Faruk Devic, told N1 that this example shows “the true policy of Serbia”.
“Unfortunately, this is a precedent in which the official policy of Serbia has shown that they reward those who celebrate the crimes committed against our people and reward the glorification of those convicted criminals. It is a situation that does not help the overall development of society in the region and is an action that should not have happened. It happened and showed what the true policy of Serbia is,” said Devic.
