State Department welcomes RS entity actions that "affirm stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina"

The US State Department welcomed the decision of authorities in Bosnia's Serb-majority region Republika Srpska to annul separatist laws and to appoint interim president, after the state-level court banned former president Milorad Dodik from politics.

In a statement to Reuters, a senior official said it was the result of US-led efforts "to defuse the crisis in BiH.
"The United states welcomed today's Republika Srpska National Assembly (RSNA) action that affirms stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It will also chart a course for constructive partnership with the United States based on mutual interests, economic potential and shared prosperity," said State Department Senior Bureau official for European and Eurasian affairs Brendan Hanrahan.

Only a few days ago, the US administration lifted sanctions for several of Dodik's associates, who were sanctioned for their roles in organizing January 9 as the Day of Republika Srpska - a holiday repeatedly declared unconstitutional by Bosnia’s Constitutional Court - and for activities that undermined the Dayton Peace Agreement.
