Sweden will co-sponsor the UN Draft Resolution to designate 11 July as the “International Day of Reflection and Commemoration of the 1995 Genocide in Srebrenica” to honour the victims, as well as the families of the victims of the Srebrenica genocide, Swedish Embassy to Bosnia and Herzegovina said Thursday.
“The genocide in Srebrenica that took place in 1995 has been confirmed by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia and the International Court of Justice. Sweden co-sponsors the UN Resolution to honour the victims, as well as the families of the victims of the Srebrenica genocide. The Srebrenica genocide of 1995 must never be forgotten or minimized. We need to remember to honour the victims, contribute to reconciliation, and learn from history. There is no place for the denial of the horrible crimes committed during the conflicts nor for the glorification of individuals who have been found guilty of such crimes,” said the Embassy's press statement.
The Resolution is expected to come before the U.N. General Assembly for a vote 2 May.
