Tainted infant formula: Toxin-linked Nestlé batches shipped to Bosnia

The Food Safety Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina has been alerted via the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (EU RASFF) that specific batches of infant formula originating from the Netherlands have been shipped to the country. The affected products contain the toxin cereulide, produced by the pathogenic bacterium Bacillus cereus.

The Agency is currently collecting data on the distribution of the implicated batches. According to the available information, the product in question is the Nestlé – NIDINA OPTIPRO 1 infant formula in 800g boxes, classified under the category of dietary food and food supplements. The specific batch numbers identified are 52850346AD, 51520346AE, 52860346BB, and 52900346AB. For the product analyzed in Italy, the expiration date is listed as 31.10.2027.

The manufacturer is Nestlé Nederland BV, located in Nunspeet, Netherlands, and the local representative is Nestlé Adriatic BH Sarajevo. The presence of the pathogenic microorganism Bacillus cereus poses a potentially serious risk to human health.

The Food Safety Agency has forwarded all available data to the competent inspection authorities for immediate further action. Previously, the Agency informed the public of a voluntary recall regarding certain batches of NAN infant formulas based on information from Nestlé Adriatic BH Sarajevo.
