According to information obtained by Transparency International from media reports and statements by Slovenian authorities, the sanctions imposed by Slovenia target only the former President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, specifically banning his entry into the country.

However, much of the property associated with Dodik and his family is legally registered under other individuals. Therefore, the actual impact of the sanctions will depend on Slovenia’s next steps, including potential measures targeting family members or investigations into the origin of funds used to acquire the assets.

Transparency International noted that this is not the first time Dodik’s wealth has come under scrutiny, both in Bosnia and Herzegovina and abroad. For example, the case involving his property in Belgrade was never fully investigated due to the Serbian authorities’ refusal to cooperate with Bosnian institutions.

“On the other hand, there have been reports regarding assets in other countries as well, which again highlights the shortcomings of our legal and institutional framework regarding asset verification. Not only are asset declarations not properly reviewed, but there is also a lack of mechanisms to request information from other countries to determine potential illicit enrichment,” Transparency International told Fena.
