Turkish military orchestra performs on the streets of Sarajevo

The "Mehter" military orchestra of the Turkiye Ministry of Defence will hold a series of concerts in Bosnia and the first such concert at Bascarsija was watched by a large number of Sarajevans and tourists, who did not hide their enthusiasm for the performance of this unique military orchestra.

"Mehter" will also play in Mostar, on Thursday, at the Old Bridge. On Friday, the “Mehtera” concert will be held at Zenica’s Turkish Park.

"Mehter" is the name for military orchestras that have accompanied the Janissary units in their military quests, as well as sultans and other Ottoman dignitaries. "Mehter" is considered the first military orchestra in history and it influenced all other world armies to found their own military orchestras.
