Tuzla Canton Prime Minister Irfan Halilagic announced on his Facebook profile that the cantonal Interior Ministry would be acquiring Armoured Personnel Carriers (APC), either for future parades or for unwanted scenarios.

Halilagic also addressed the parade and military-style march on January 9 for the Republika Srpska (RS) Day in East Sarajevo, which was declared unconstitutional by the BiH Constitutional Court, and which featured ‘Despot’ APC produced in Bratunac.

“We are aware of our responsibility as the most numerous ethnic group. Suffering is our fate, it is the price we pay to have a country – whatever it may look like. It’s the only country we have! And we accepted to pay that price. No, it does not mean that we are passive or naive. This doesn’t mean that an embargo on the import of weapons or an embargo on democracy (as Mr Zeljko Komsic, the BiH Presidency member said yesterday), can stop us. The spoken and written word is the most powerful weapon. We wrote in history textbooks that it [January 9 celebration] is unconstitutional, that it is a prelude to genocide, ethnic cleansing, rape, and killing of children, women, and the elderly. That all this is in the verdicts of the world's highest judicial instances, a “difficult” 1000 years prison. Children have been learning about it in schools since September. Not a single generation will have collective amnesia or a hole in their memory about themselves and their past. Economy, yes. Social policy, yes. Healthcare, yes. Sports, yes. Infrastructure, yes. A free society, yes. The fight against corruption, yes. But also, security, YES. We are expecting APCs. May they serve for future parades but also the unwanted scenarios,” Tuzla Canton Prime Minister said in what he called a response to those criticizing the decision to buy equipment for the Tuzla police.
